Treadstone Zero

Treadstone Zero is a really small Linux utility distribution that lets a user easily delete and erase hard drive partitions. The utility is meant to be for system administrators to easily wipe systems totally clean. Treadstone Zero boots in less than 10 seconds on most systems, consists of a Linux 2.6.32 kernel, consists of a ram based file system (ext2 ramfs), and supports most major hard drive controllers such as IDE, SCSI and SATA. Simply boot up, and select the partitions you wish to erase.

WARNING

Treadstone Zero WILL erase (zero out) your hard drive completely so please be careful when using this utility.

Installation & Usage

To install, download the ISO file above and burn to CDROM. Boot the CDROM and once the system comes up select the partition or drive device to zer0-fill.

USB Pen Drive: You can also burn this ISO to a USB Pen drive using the UNetBootIn program. (UNetBootIn for Windows located here)

Screenshots

Note: The “no space left on devices” message you see in the screenshot below is normal. It’s just notifying you that the device has been filled aka zeroed. Behind the scenes I am doing a dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/DEV  DEV being the device you chose.

120gigs could take a little while. It’s filling the whole drive with zeros so the bigger the longer it takes. What are your PC specs? Is it a SATA or IDE drive?
