My early Fallen Earth review

Last December I picked up (downloaded) a copy of Fallen Earth as I was on the lookout for a new MMORPG game to get into. Fallen Earth’s end world theme seemed to be a good choice for me as I like the “mad-max” time period. After a few days of playing I quit, thinking it was just another game and I ended up losing 28 days of game play. The quests seemed to be the same ole thing, go kill X Y Z, take supplies to this person, talk to that person, the usual questing. Then after getting bored yet again with WoW and EVE Online I decided to give it another try.

The first thing I did was went and read all the guides and information I could find about the game. I wanted to know exactly what I was getting into and I also wanted to find out in one month if this was going to be my next game for the next two years or so. After playing for four days straight I really really started to enjoy the game more and more. The more I played the more features I found and the more I liked it.

Character customization is truely unique and original. No single character will feel the same and the system appears to be setup do that there won’t be cookie cutter builds much like WoW’s character attribute system. I’ll try to explain this as best as I can however there is so much! In Fallen Earth you receive Action Points which you can put towards various Stats and Skills in your character.

There are Skills and Stats that you can put these points in. You put points in Stats to allow you to put more points into your skills. Lets say you max out your melee skill, you would need to add more points to Strength under Stats to get the ability to grow your melee skill even further. Certain attributes affect certain skills.

The questing system is more or less much like any other game that involves running quests for NPC entities. You receive money (called chips), equipment, Action Points and Experience from doing quests in Fallen Earth.

PVP & Endgame: Recently I was able to talk to some people that have been playing hardcore from release and they filled me in on endgame and PVP. Fallen Earth is a sandbox game meaning that you make your own content and play how you want to play. There is no “endgame” monsters or quests that you do in an instance style map. If you want to be rich, you become a gatherer or crafter. If you want to fight and kill other players, you go the PVP route. I am not high enough in the levels to know much about PVP so I will touch on that more at a later date.

Music: Typical game style music. Not MIDI sounding like EVE Online but not “fantasy wowes me” like WoW…it has its own style to it.

Graphics: The graphics in this game or pretty good for an MMORPG. As compared to WoW I would say they are much more detailed but as compared to a newer FPS such as Modern Warfare 2 they aren’t. The cool thing is that you can play the game from either FPS or Third-Person view.

Overall: As of right now I am giving this game a 7/10 just for that fact that it appears you have to be much higher level to have any sort of fun at PVP. This is typical in most games with the exception of EVE Online where even the newest playing can have an important role when ganged in PVP. An apprenticeship style system like Age of Conan would be cool.

Give me a shout ingame: pm Lokki or Ronnen

Zero-Day VBScript plagues Windows XP / 2000.

Apparently there is a new zero-day flaw that affects Windows XP and 2000 computers utilizing VBScript. An attacker can trick someone into visiting a website that binds the F1 key to a VBScript event which ultimately installs malicious code on your machine. Microsoft’s fix: Don’t press the F1 key when windows pop up. LOL. Ok [...]

Has Verizon been hacked? Security certificates revoked!

Has Verizon been hacked? Google Chrome seems to think so. Just a few minutes ago I tried to log into Verizon to see why my phone isn’t making any calls and to also see why I can’t make any text messages. I’m going to have to probably assume they haven’t been hacked, but how does [...]

My first blocked number in Google Voice.

Today I received my first piece of spam in Google Voice. At first I was really PISSED-OFF but then a feeling of serenity passed over my whole body as I noticed the “block” button. Slowly and cautiously I clicked it, making my day THAT MUCH better. Just knowing that I will no longer be getting [...]

3500 Netflix on Linux petitions.

Currently you can not watch Netflix if you are a Linux user and all those new Ubuntu Netbook owners will not be watching Netflix anytime soon either. Apple bans “android” from apps store.

Apples waving the ban stick around again, this time rejecting an educational iPhone app because it contained the word “Android”. The application? Flash of Genius: SAT Vocab 2.2, an iPhone app developed by Tim Novikof. The app did really well in the Android Developer Challenge that Google puts on and decided to mention that [...]

My .02 on Apple’s anti-flash, anti-freedom movement.

As many of you iPhone consumers may know, Flash isn’t supported and will probably never be supported. The new up and coming iPad (AppleĀ Tablet) will be running a version of the iPhone operating system and will probably have the same exact restrictions. The reason Apple doesn’t want to support Flash is because it allows third [...]
