How to resume broken downloads.

In remote locations, some people have to use satellite Internet or dial-up, making downloading large files nearly impossible. When downloading large files, they often time-out or stop all-together. Download management software will actually take care of all your download needs.

When you click a link to download a file, it will launch the download software and keep track of the download itself. The DM software will actually break up the download into small pieces, allowing it to resume broken downloads. I recently had to download a 130mb file and it would always time out around 25%, so I downloaded and download manager. I could actually tweak the setting to resume download after no activity, and also set the number of retries. After letting the download manager do it’s thing while I was at work, it actually was complete when I came home.

Free Download Manager is a free and open source solution for download management. It supports BitTorrents, broken downloads and has numerous other features.

Has Verizon been hacked? Security certificates revoked!

Has Verizon been hacked? Google Chrome seems to think so. Just a few minutes ago I tried to log into Verizon to see why my phone isn’t making any calls and to also see why I can’t make any text messages. I’m going to have to probably assume they haven’t been hacked, but how does [...]

Slowly and cautiously I clicked it, making my day THAT MUCH better. Just knowing that I will no longer be getting [...]

Apple bans “android” from apps store.

Apples waving the ban stick around again, this time rejecting an educational iPhone app because it contained the word “Android”. The application? Flash of Genius: SAT Vocab 2.2, an iPhone app developed by Tim Novikof. The app did really well in the Android Developer Challenge that Google puts on and decided to mention that [...]

My .02 on Apple’s anti-flash, anti-freedom movement.

As many of you iPhone consumers may know, Flash isn’t supported and will probably never be supported. The new up and coming iPad (Apple Tablet) will be running a version of the iPhone operating system and will probably have the same exact restrictions. The reason Apple doesn’t want to support Flash is because it allows third [...]

RockYou hacked passwords weak.

Late last year some 32million accounts were hacked at RockYou. What was the most common factor for these accounts? Weak passwords. Passwords are your lifeline for your Internet accounts and you shouldn’t be using guessable words and numbers as your passwords. I’m not saying you should use a giant 32 character password, but adding a [...]
